- abietinee - An old scientific name assigned to a subfamily or family of gymnosperm plants (conifers), including genera such as Abies (fir) and Picea (spruce). In ancient medical botany treatises, the abietineae represented a major source of volatile active principles (essential oils, turpentine, resin acids) intensively used in therapeutic balneology, chronic lung disease treatments, and anti-scorbutic remedy distillation.
