It denoted a particular manifestation of melancholic delusion or exhaustion psychosis, characterized by ideas of unrealistic universal reform mixed with profound apathy, morbid sadness, and feelings of helplessness before destiny, with the patient considering himself a misunderstood or dethroned monarch.
