• abdica — In a forensic and psychopathological context, the term describes the voluntary or forced act by which a person relinquishes prerogatives, rights, or duties due to mental incapacity, alienation, or severe cognitive decline (such as senile dementia). In classic psychology, the verb also defines the pathological relinquishment of the ego's conscious control over impulses, drives, or volition (abdication of the will or abulia).
• abdicare — The act or process by which a person formally relinquishes a right, an administrative function, or a legal responsibility, analyzed in forensic psychiatry from the perspective of the integrity of discernment. In the psychopathology of volition, the term denotes the dynamic suspension of the ego's executive functions, leading to states of profound apathy, learned helplessness, or psychic capitulation in the face of major traumatic stress.
