- Alcoforado — Mariana Alcoforado (1640–1723), a Portuguese nun from Beja, historically considered the alleged author of the famous 'Portuguese Letters' (Lettres portugaises), published in France in 1669. This epistolary work contains five passionate and desperate love letters addressed to a French officer, representing a structural monument of European passionate literature and a subject heavily debated by critics regarding the authenticity or authorship of the text.
- Algarve — The southernmost administrative region of continental Portugal, world-renowned for its dramatic Atlantic coastline, golden beaches, and limestone cliffs. Its capital is Faro. Historically, the region retains a strong Moorish heritage, with its name deriving from Arabic 'Al-Gharb' (The West).
- Azores — A Portuguese archipelago composed of nine volcanic islands located in the middle of the North Atlantic Ocean, approximately 1500 km west of Lisbon; it represents an autonomous region of Portugal, world-renowned for its mountainous terrain, volcanic crater lakes, mild oceanic climate, and lush vegetation.
- Azulejos — Thin ceramic tiles, square or rectangular, glazed and decorated on one side with geometric, floral motifs, or complex figurative scenes, characteristic of traditional Spanish and, especially, Portuguese architecture. These structural elements are used to line the interior and exterior walls of palaces, churches, or houses, serving both a decorative and protective role against moisture.
