- Amza — A masculine proper name of Arabic or Turkish origin (Hamza, meaning 'lion' or 'strong'), deeply integrated into Romanian onomastics through historical Balkan contacts. The name became extremely famous and beloved in national culture due to the great actor Amza Pellea (1933–1983), creator of the legendary folk character Nea Mărin, and the masterful performer of the ruler Michael the Brave.
