#Romanian traditions
- To fast on the eve — To fast (completely or restrictively) on the day or period preceding a major religious holiday; to abstain totally or partially from food and drink as an act of spiritual purification. In a broad sense, to spend time in a state of pious anticipation, respecting the traditional rules imposed on the eve of a solemn or sacred event.
- The White Old Man — A regional mythological character or symbolic figure in Romanian folklore, often representing a wise old man, a protective spirit of a place, or a personification of time and winter. The name is an archaic compound of 'alb' (white, suggesting purity, gray hair, or snow) and 'bătrân' (old man, symbol of wisdom and longevity).
- Bumblebee — A popular name given to the bumblebee or to certain species of large flies, horseflies, or solitary ground wasps, characterized by a darker, blackish or coppery coloration and a loud buzzing sound, which vaguely resemble bees but do not produce honey.
- Aldămășar — A person who participates in a deal-sealing drink ('aldămaș'), receiving or offering food and drinks to celebrate a trade; by extension, a freeloader or a partygoer who attends rural negotiations solely to benefit from the free drinks provided by traders at the end of a transaction.
- Swaying dance steps — Name given in certain regions to the rapid, alternating, and swaying dance steps of a folk game or, in some dialects, an archaic plural variant used erroneously or regionally for cornmeal pastry products. In a folklore context, it represents a swaying movement specific to group dances executed at village celebrations.
- Social gathering — A traditional rural popular gathering, usually organized during winter evenings, where participants (especially women and youth) gather in a house to work on various crafts (spinning, weaving, sewing), to tell stories, sing, and joke. This structural phenomenon constitutes an essential pillar of archaic community socialization, ensuring the delicate transmission of folklore and traditions from one generation to the next.
- Blindman's buff — A popular children's game in which one of the participants is blindfolded with a scarf or handkerchief and must search for, catch, and identify the other players moving around them; by extension, it denotes a confused action, a blind search, or a situation in which someone acts at random without clear reference points.
