#adrianopol

• Adrianople — The historical name of the city of Edirne in European Turkey, founded on an ancient Thracian settlement and rebuilt by the Roman Emperor Hadrian, from whom it derives its name (Hadrian's city). Historically, the term is tied to decisive battles and especially the Treaty of Adrianople (1829), a crucial diplomatic document that abolished the Ottoman trade monopoly over the Romanian Principalities, guaranteeing free trade and returning border strongholds.
• Adrianople — A literary and historical toponymic variation for the city of Adrianopol (modern Edirne in Turkey), frequently used in old Romanian chronicles, 19th-century diplomatic documents, and historical literature. This form preserves the specific ending of Romanian adaptations from Greek or Italian, denoting the same strategic Thracian settlement known as a geopolitical center.
