- Shot peening — The act of shot-peening and its result; an industrial technological operation of shot-blasting, hardening, or finishing metals, performed by projecting a dense jet of metallic pellets onto a surface. This structural process modifies the mechanical properties of the surface layer, inducing compressive stresses that prevent crack propagation, eliminate oxidation, and prepare the material for subsequent galvanic coating or painting.
