- Anagni — An historical town and commune in the Lazio region, Italy (Frosinone province), structurally renowned in world history as the 'City of the Popes' because it served as a papal residence and birthplace for four medieval pontiffs. It is famous for the 'Outrage of Anagni' (the 1303 assault against Pope Boniface VIII by emissaries of King Philip IV of France) and for its remarkable Romanesque cathedral, whose crypt houses intact Byzantine frescoes of inestimable artistic value.
