• Engagement — The act of engaging or closing an electrical circuit; the technical operation of making a circuit or coupling a mechanism via a switching apparatus. In power systems, the process represents the restoration of current flow within a network, which can be performed manually by an operator or automatically by specialized relays following the restoration of nominal parameters.
• Automatic reclosing — An automatic process or maneuver executed within power protection systems whereby a circuit breaker, disconnector, or power line taken out of service due to a temporary fault (short circuit, atmospheric overvoltage) is automatically reconnected to the network after a preset time interval, without the manual intervention of the operating personnel.
