#angiosperms
- Adelphocarpy — A biological phenomenon or botanical property observed in certain angiosperm plant species, characterized by the production of closely grouped, fused, or structurally twin fruits. This tight anatomical formation often originates from a compact inflorescence where the ovaries of neighboring flowers fuse during maturation, facilitating a collective dispersal of seeds.
- Anatropous — Regarding plant ovules: completely inverted or turned upside down by 180 degrees during its structural development. In this biological position characteristic of most angiosperms, the micropyle is directed downward, brought close to the hilum, while the chalaza is positioned at the opposite end, connected to the base by the raphe.
- Angiosperms — A major division or dominant taxonomic group (Angiospermae) gathering all higher vascular plants with flowers and seeds enclosed within a fruit. From a structural and evolutionary perspective, this vast group represents the primary component of today's terrestrial flora, being well-defined by its diverse reproductive mechanisms, the presence of perfect xylem vessels (tracheae), and double fertilization.
- Anisocotoly — A biological characteristic of certain dicotyledonous plant species, consisting of the unequal, asymmetric, or irregular development of the two cotyledons inside the seed or at the time of germination; anisocotylia. This morphological inequality can influence the seedling's initial rate of photosynthesis and represents an important taxonomic criterion in the evolutionary study of specific angiosperm families.
- Aristolochiaceous — A designation assigned to a plant belonging to the Aristolochiaceae family or, in the plural, to the family itself; a family of angiospermous dicotyledonous plants, generally perennial herbs or woody vines, distributed mainly in tropical and temperate regions. These plants feature entire, often cordate leaves and bisexual flowers with a bizarre tubular structure adapted for insect pollination, with many species containing dangerous toxic substances.
