#anthophyll

• Acanthophilous — A plant morphological term used as an adjective to describe a plant displaying a strong ecological affinity for environments populated by spiny species, or whose leaves have partially or completely transformed into spines or thorns (a typical adaptation to drought). As a masculine noun, it defines a foliar anatomical structure evolutionarily modified into a sharp, rigid needle (as seen in cactus leaves or certain acacia species), serving to reduce water loss via transpiration and ensure self-defense.
• Anthophyllite — In mineralogy, it represents a variety of amphibole (anthophyllite), a natural magnesium and iron silicate with a fibrous or lamellar structure; in botany, it can structurally refer to modified leaves composing a flower (perianth or reproductive elements); in zoology, it describes an organism or insect naturally attracted to flowers.
• Anthophyll — The feminine form of antofil; in botany, it designates a structurally modified leaf that forms part of a flower (such as sepals, petals, stamens, or carpels); in zoology, it characterizes a species or insect (e.g., a bee) that visits and harvests pollen or nectar from flowers.
• Anthophyllite — A natural magnesium and iron silicate, crystallizing in the orthorhombic system, belonging to the magnesium amphibole group; a mineral with a lamellar, fibrous, or prismatic structure, colored gray, brown, or greenish, found chiefly in metamorphic rocks (crystalline schists). Its fibrous varieties are industrially utilized as asbestos resistant to acids and high temperatures, though their handling involves severe respiratory toxicity risks.
