#antitussive
- Antitussive — Calming, mitigating, or stopping cough; a medication or active substance administered for the symptomatic treatment of dry, irritating, and non-productive cough. It acts either centrally, by depressing the cough center in the medulla oblongata (such as codeine or dextromethorphan), or peripherally, by anesthetizing the sensory receptors within the respiratory tract mucosa.
