- Scorching heat — An old regional form or lexical archaism used isolatedly in certain rural dialects to describe a state of extreme heat, a scorching drought, a sun-baked barren land, or a physical burn. In a structural-linguistic sense, the term derives from the root of the verb 'a arde' (to burn) through popular phonetic blending, functioning as a vernacular metaphor for extreme temperatures or the destructive effect of fire and heat waves on nature.
