- Racecourse — A specially designed place, track, smooth ground, or bordered lane where running, trotting and galloping horse races, or athletic training take place; an archaic hippodrome; a running ground for animals. In old rural land registries, the term also described a meadow or open pasture where youth used to race their horses.
- Arariță — A rare or regional term historically used in certain Romanian dialects to denote a place where vegetation, trees, or crops are sparsely arranged, thinned out, or scattered; a clearing or sparse woods. In some rural micro-communities, the word was used as a popular name for a rudimentary agricultural tool used to draw thin furrows.
- Prison — A regional and archaic term used primarily in Transylvania, Maramureș, and Bukovina to designate a prison, jail, dungeon, or place of detention. In a historical sense, the word reflects the administrative and judicial reality in the Romanian historical provinces under Central European influence, representing a popular adaptation of the terms used by authorities for deprivation of liberty.
- Aristea — A genus of herbaceous, perennial, and rhizomatous plants in the Iridaceae family, primarily native to tropical and southern regions of Africa, as well as Madagascar. The genus comprises around 50 species frequently cultivated as ornamental plants due to their ensiform (sword-shaped) leaves grouped in dense rosettes and spectacular inflorescences with intense blue flowers, a hue rarely encountered in the plant kingdom, which usually open for a single day.
- Aristea corymbosa — Scientific name for a rare and robust shrubby species of perennial plants in the Iridaceae family, native to the mountainous regions of South Africa. This plant is particularly spectacular due to its woody stems, fan-shaped leaves, and dense corymb-like inflorescences that produce intense blue flowers, being cultivated worldwide as a collectible ornamental plant.
- Aristero — A linguistic term borrowed from Ancient Greek (aristeros), used in scientific or medical terminology as a combining form meaning 'left' or 'situated on the left side'. Although rarely encountered as an independent adjective in contemporary Romanian, its structural root underlies niche concepts describing anatomical asymmetry or left spatial orientation.
- Aristerostil — A rare architectural term used to describe a structural system or layout where the supporting elements or columns are positioned predominantly on the left side of the facade structure, or exhibit a specific asymmetrical orientation towards the left. This type of geometric configuration is encountered in avant-garde monumental compositions or in inverted symmetry studies of classical buildings, aiming to visually and dynamically redistribute the aesthetic weight of an assembly.
- Aristeu — A benevolent minor deity in Greek mythology, the son of the god Apollo and the nymph Cyrene, revered as the protector of shepherds, hunters, and flocks. Aristaeus is traditionally considered the one who taught humanity the secrets of beekeeping, olive cultivation, cheese-making, and oil extraction, standing as a symbolic figure of rural civilization and agrarian arts.
- Aristiferous — A niche term used in botanical morphology to describe a plant, a plant structure, or an organ (glume, lemma, fruit) that bears aristas (awns), meaning rigid, prickly hairs or sharp filiform extensions, characteristic especially of grasses. This structural element plays an essential role in protecting seeds against predators and in facilitating their dispersal by clinging to animal fur.
