#bacchic poetry

• Abu Nuwas — One of the greatest Arabic poets of the classical Abbasid era, renowned for his iconoclastic wit, stylistic refinement, and masterclass definition of Bacchic poetry (khamriyyat). His work, characterized by shocking candor and a subtle irony towards the social and religious conventions of the era, marked a definitive departure from the rigidity of pre-Islamic Bedouin poetry, celebrating urban freedom, ephemeral pleasures, and the hedonistic aesthetics of medieval Baghdad.
• Anacreontism — A literary movement or aesthetic trend manifested in universal poetry, characterized by the imitation of the work and style of the Greek poet Anacreon. This cultural phenomenon, cultivated especially during the Hellenistic period, the Renaissance, and the Neoclassical era, places at the center of its thematic configuration the hedonistic celebration of life, the cult of wine, gallant love, youth, and festive banquets, promoting a form of artistic expression full of grace, formal lightness, and a refusal of major tragic themes.
