#boyar caftan
- Alaja — A fine oriental cotton or silk fabric, usually adorned with bright colored stripes, historically imported from the Ottoman Empire and used in the medieval Romanian Principalities for tailoring boyar garments, luxury caftans, or decorative curtains; by extension, the clothing made from this precious material. This term reflects the intense commercial structures and cultural exchanges between the Balkan and Eastern-Oriental spaces, being frequently recorded in dowry sheets and merchant goods ledgers of the 17th to 19th centuries.
