#digestive tract
- Agastria — A rare pathological term or archaic medical word designating the complete, congenital, or surgical absence of the stomach (agastria); by extension, a functional or structural state in which gastric secretion and stomach-level digestion are completely halted. Clinically, the term reflects a severe anatomical anomaly requiring major therapeutic and nutritional restructurings of the digestive tract.
- Antiperistalsis — A physiological or pathological phenomenon consisting of the reversal of the muscular contraction waves of the digestive tract, propagating in the opposite direction of the normal one, from the lower to the upper stages. This structural mechanism can occur as a defense reaction of the body in case of toxic substance ingestion, generating vomiting, or as a severe symptom within mechanical intestinal obstructions and occlusions.
