- Smartweed — A popular or regional name assigned to certain medicinal plants or field weeds that cause irritation, burning sensations, or possess bright reddish stems. In a structural phytotherapeutic sense, the term is sometimes used to describe wild varieties of herbs with a pungent taste or vesicant properties on the skin.
- Wild mint — A popular name attributed in traditional phytotherapy to certain herbaceous plant species (such as types of wild mint or St. John's wort) whose leaves or inflorescences present an oily, sticky secretion resembling beads of sweat. In empirical beliefs, extracts obtained from this plant were used as poultices or infusions to soothe migraines and reduce severe febrile states.
