#gallicism
- Amende honorable — A public, solemn, and humiliating confession of a fault, accompanied by a request for forgiveness from the guilty party; historically (specifically in old French law), it was an infamous penalty whereby the condemned had to symbolically recognize their crime in public, barefoot and holding a torch, asking forgiveness from God, the king, and justice. In a modern sense, it denotes a dignified retraction of slanderous statements.
- Approximate — An archaic, learned, or early neological form used in pre-modern texts as a French-styled variant for the adjective or adverb 'aproximativ'; being close to the true value, to the truth, or to a reference point without being perfectly exact; tentative, rough.
- Armoury — An unadapted etymological form, gallicism, or literary variant of 'armurărie'; a shop, workshop, or storehouse for weapons and defensive military gear. While the standardized Romanian form uses 'ă', this variant with 'e' occurs in 19th-century historical texts and commercial names.
