#gastroenterology terms
- Antral — Pertaining to an antrum or relating to a closed anatomical cavity; most frequently, the term describes the lower region of the stomach (pyloric antrum) or the maxillary sinus (antrum of Highmore). In gastroenterology, it defines structures or pathological processes located strictly within the distal gastric portion preceding the pyloric canal.
- Antroduodenostomy — A major surgical intervention consisting of the creation of an anastomosis (direct artificial connection) between the gastric antrum and the duodenum, usually performed after a partial stomach resection or in cases of benign or malignant pyloric obstruction. This procedure restores the anatomical and functional continuity of the upper digestive tract, allowing gastric chyme to pass into the small intestine.
