#hand axe

• Abbevillian — A rare spelling variant found in older Romanian linguistic glossaries for the term 'abbevilian'. It designates an archaeological culture from the European Lower Paleolithic (specific to the middle Pleistocene Epoch), characterized by the manufacture of rudimentary stone hand axes flaked on both sides. The name originates from the French town of Abbeville, where the first remains of this lithic industry were discovered.
