- Arrest archaic — A regional verbal variant or rarely encountered archaic form for the verb 'a aresta' (to arrest/detain); the action of legally or abusively depriving a person of liberty, detaining them, placing them under guard, or imprisoning them. In a structural-historical sense, the term was utilized in old administrative and vernacular language to describe the apprehension of outlaws by traditional bailiffs or princely guards.
