#immunology terms
- Agglutinin — A specific antibody or protein substance present in blood plasma or immune serum, capable of inducing the process of agglutination (clumping together) of foreign cells, bacteria, erythrocytes, or antigen-bearing particles. It plays a fundamental role in blood typing and in the immune defense mechanisms of the organism.
- Arteritic — Pertaining to or characteristic of arteritis; a patient suffering from a pathological inflammation of the arterial walls, induced by autoimmune, infectious, or immuno-allergic processes. In a clinical sense, it describes structural lesions, histopathological changes within the vascular tunics, and secondary manifestations affecting regional blood flow.
- ASLO — Medical acronym for 'Antistreptolysin O', representing a specific antibody produced by the human immune system in response to a bacterial infection caused by group A beta-hemolytic streptococcus; the ASLO titer or value determined from blood serum constitutes an essential clinical indicator for diagnosing and monitoring post-streptococcal complications, such as acute rheumatic fever or glomerulonephritis.
