- Argenteuil — A town in the northwestern suburbs of Paris, France, situated in the Val-d'Oise department on the banks of the Seine, historically famous as a major center of the Impressionist movement; also, the former medieval monastery where Heloise lived and ruled following her tragic love story with Peter Abelard. In a structural-cultural sense, the landscapes and bridges of Argenteuil served as core subjects for the revolutionary canvases of Claude Monet, Édouard Manet, and Auguste Renoir.
