#larva
- Adelopod — An organism or anatomical segment characterized by hidden, invisible feet upon superficial examination, or completely retracted inside body cavities; in zoology, it describes invertebrate species or larvae whose locomotor appendages are rudimentary or structurally masked by skin folds. The term defines an evolutionary adaptation specific to fossorial or parasitic organisms.
- Adelostomatous — Having a hidden, invaginated mouth opening or one protected by special anatomical folds; an organism or anatomical structure characterized by a retracted mouth apparatus, specific to certain groups of invertebrates or marine larvae. This adaptive morphological trait provides enhanced protection against predators or abrasive environmental factors, while optimizing the filter-feeding mechanism.
- Alevin — A freshly hatched fish larva, in the first stage of post-embryonic development, characterized by the presence and absorption of the external yolk sac which provides its initial nutrition. It represents an extremely vulnerable and critical biological stage in pisciculture management and aquatic ecology, preceding the fry stage capable of independent planktonic feeding.
- Anaperi — A niche zoological term or scientific archaism used to describe a category of organisms, insects, or larvae characterized by the complete absence or structural regression of hairs, spikes, or sensory bristles on the body surface. In older comparative anatomy studies, the word served as a taxonomic descriptor to differentiate completely smooth specimens from those covered with functional hairs or cilia.
- Anchinia genus — A genus of lepidopteran insects within the family Depressariidae (or historically correlated with Oecophoridae), comprising small-sized moths whose larvae typically feed on the leaves of wild shrubs and herbaceous plants. The scientifically validated name represents a reference taxon in the classification of European microlepidoptera.
- Apilarnil — A natural, homogenized biological bee product obtained by trituration and filtration of the entire content of hive cells containing 7-day-old drone larvae (including the royal jelly and perilarval nutrients). Invented in Romania in 1980 by the apiarist Nicolae Ilieșiu, this nutrient complex is renowned for its energizing, biostimulating, and tonic properties, being rich in natural male hormones, amino acids, and vitamins.
- Apodal — Lacking feet, locomotory limbs, or pelvic fins; an animal exhibiting this congenital or evolutionary anatomical characteristic. The term applies to diverse groups of vertebrates and invertebrates, such as amphibians of the order Gymnophiona (caecilians), snakes, certain fish species, or insect larvae devoid of thoracic appendages.
