#monastic terminology

• Vespers companion — A rare archaic or regional form associated with the religious evening context; it can denote a ritual book, a rule containing the prayers for vespers, or a woman (nun) tasked with preparing and gathering the items needed for the twilight service in a monastery. As an adjective, it describes an element, gesture, or state specific to the late hours of the day, correlated with the meditative atmosphere before nightfall.
