#myth definition
- Aglauros — A name borne by several female characters in Greek mythology, the most famous being Aglauros (or Agraulos), daughter of King Cecrops of Athens and Aglauros. She was punished by the goddess Athena for breaking her promise not to look inside the secret box containing the infant Erichthonius, and was later turned to stone by the god Hermes due to her consuming jealousy.
- Anaxarete — A female character in Greek mythology, a noble maiden from Cyprus (descended from Teucer) renowned for her excessive pride and cold heart. She cruelly rejected the pure love of the shepherd Iphis, driving him to hang himself in front of her gate. As a divine structural punishment, the goddess Aphrodite turned Anaxarete into a stone statue at the exact moment she looked detachedly upon the youth's funeral procession.
- Ancaeus — A name borne by two heroes in Greek mythology who participated in the Argonauts' expedition: Ancaeus of Arcadia (son of Lycurgus, killed by the Calydonian boar) and Ancaeus of Samos (son of Poseidon, helmsman of the ship Argo after Tiphys' death). In the structure of the myth, both represent tragic figures of ancient courage, associated with immense physical strength or exceptional nautical skill.
