#old romanian language

• Ancient retinue — An old spelling form or regional phonetic variant of the noun 'alai', used in medieval chronicles and local dialects to designate a sumptuous cortege, a boyar retinue, or a noisy public procession. This term preserves the archaic nuance of solemn collective events at the princely courts of the past.
• Ama — A term with regional or archaic usage, utilized in certain historical areas either as an interjection to express surprise, caution, or a gentle urge, or as a noun to designate a wet nurse, an elderly woman caring for children, or a respectful form of address towards a woman in the community. Its structural meaning retains a strong emotional value, reflecting close social bonds in traditional rural communities.
• To arrange — A rare dialectal term, historically used in certain Romanian regional idioms to express a specific action of adaptation, modification, or structural arrangement of artisanal elements or textures. Linguistically, it represents a verb rarely found in modern literary dictionaries, sporadically preserved in the linguistic memory of isolated rural communities, reflecting old lexical influences or hybrid loanwords adapted to native verbal morphology.
• Article variant — An archaic, regional, or unofficial phonetic variant of the neuter noun 'articol' (article); historically used in certain old ecclesiastical documents, chronicles, or folk speech across various regions to denote a written text, a legal clause, a statutory provision, or a determiner part of speech. This variant reflects an imperfect assimilation or an early adaptation of the Latin etymon 'articulus' in the Romanian language prior to its modern standardization into the current literary form.
• Astiu — An old, regional, or archaic form derived from the historical lexical stock, used in the past to denote a state of certainty, knowledge, or a person possessing reliable information, being closely related etymologically to the popular forms of the verb 'to know' ('a ști'). In certain local dialects, the term referred to an empirical indicator, a clear proof, or an unyielding verbal testimony brought before the community.
• To gather — An archaic and regional variant of the verb 'to gather' (a strânge); the act of collecting dispersed objects, materials, or people in one place, or compressing, pressing, or tightly binding a structural element to reduce its volume or secure it firmly. In old legal and administrative texts, it was often used to express the collection of taxes, accumulation of wealth, or forcing a person to honor a commitment.
• Estranger — A person, agent, or structural factor that causes, facilitates, or carries out an estrangement (alienation, distancing, or isolation); one who transfers or sells assets from the family patrimony, or one who sows discord, causing the breaking of emotional and moral bonds among members of a community or a family.
