#orogeny
- Anticlinorium — A large-scale regional tectonic formation with a complex structure, consisting of a bundle of secondary folds and faults globally arranged in the shape of a major convex arch (anticline type). This geological megasystem forms in zones of intense orogeny through the lateral compression of the earth's crust, holding the oldest and most metamorphosed rock layers in its central core.
- Armorican — Pertaining to the ancient region of Armorica or the Celtic populations inhabiting it; specific to the inhabitants of ancient coastal Gaul. As a noun, a native of this area; in geology, it describes tectonic movements or mountain structures from the Variscan orogeny.
- Foredeep — An elongated, deep structural depression of the Earth's crust, located between a folded mountain chain (undergoing orogeny) and a stable platform or shield. The foredeep functions as a major sedimentary basin where vast volumes of terrigenous sediments (such as molasse, sandstones, conglomerates, and clays) accumulate due to the rapid erosion of the adjacent mountains.
