#ship anchorage
- Berthing — A technical term of French or Italian origin (approdo), used in maritime navigation to denote the action of berthing, approaching, or bringing a ship to shore, to a pier, or into a specially designated area within a port. It also defines a safe coastal area, sheltered from currents and waves, which allows the safe execution of anchoring and cargo unloading maneuvers.
- Outer roadstead — An area of water located outside the harbor proper, but partially protected naturally or by outer breakwaters, where ships can safely anchor to wait for entrance into port basins, berth availability, or improved weather conditions; outer roadstead. It represents the first secured maritime point of contact prior to entering an outer harbor or inland port.
