#star of bethlehem
- Star-of-Bethlehem — A regional popular name given in Romanian flora to the species Ornithogalum umbellatum, known literarily as 'bălușcă' (star-of-Bethlehem), or to wild varieties of Allium that develop small underground bulbs and fine inflorescences. From a structural standpoint, the plant is distinguished by slender stems, linear leaves crossed by a white central stripe, and star-shaped flowers of outstanding aesthetic purity, growing wildly in damp meadows or clearings. The term holds significant ethnobotanical value, being historically integrated into rural beliefs as an indicator plant of spring soil quality.
