#to lay down

• To spread — To spread out, unfold, or place on a surface a textile object, a layer of materials (such as sheets, blankets, straw, or gravel) to prepare a bed, a road, or a protective covering. Used reflexively or intransitively in a figurative sense, it refers to the appearance of a uniform natural layer (as snow, silence, or dust settles) or to focusing on a task (to settle down to a journey or to writing).
