#wandering jew

• Ahasver — The legendary name of the Wandering Jew, a mythological figure condemned, according to medieval Christian tradition, to wander the earth until the Second Coming of Jesus Christ, for having mocked Him on His way to Golgotha. In a broader metaphorical sense, the name designates the symbol of the stateless person, condemned to eternal spiritual or physical wandering and perpetual existential restlessness.
• Ahasverus — The Latin form of the mythical name attributed to the Wandering Jew, a figure from medieval Western European Christian legends. Also, in biblical exegesis and historiography, the name represents the Latin transliteration of the Hebrew name Ahasuerus, used in the Old Testament (Book of Esther) to designate the Persian king historically identified, most often, with Xerxes I.
• Assuerus — A Latin onomastic form historically used in biblical translations (such as the Vulgate) for the Persian king Ahasuerus (often identified with Xerxes I), mentioned in the Book of Esther; it also represents the legendary name attributed in medieval Christian folklore to the mythical character the Wandering Jew, condemned to wander the earth until the Second Coming because of his refusal to allow Jesus to rest on the path to the crucifixion.
