- Aeration tank — A large basin, reservoir, or industrial technical installation used in wastewater treatment plants for their aerobic biological treatment. Its structural operation relies on the continuous and forced insufflation of air (oxygenation) into the liquid mass, a process that stimulates the growth of microorganisms in the active sludge which decompose polluting organic substances.
- Blackwater — An ecological and technical term designating domestic wastewater originating directly from toilets, structurally loaded with fecal matter, urine, and dangerous pathogens, requiring advanced biological treatment; in hydrology, it describes a tropical river type (blackwater river) rich in humic acids and decaying organic matter, and in old medical / veterinary pathology, it indicates severe hematuria or hemoglobinuria.
