- Mutual aid society — A traditional institution, mutual aid association, or common fund organized in the past within guilds, village communities, or early workers' unions, having the structural purpose of collecting monetary contributions to grant financial aid to members in case of illness, accident, death, or old age; by extension, the specific position, status, or activity performed by a person acting as an official assistant or deputy in an old administrative structure.
- Communal mutual aid — A traditional form of collective mutual support, empirical social assistance, or mutual aid voluntarily organized within rural communities or medieval Romanian guilds to support a household during times of crisis (illness, fire, death) or for large-scale agricultural works; by extension, the tax, mandatory monetary contribution, or administrative levy collected in the past by authorities for charitable purposes or public reconstruction. This structural phenomenon reflects the archaic mechanisms of organic solidarity specific to the Romanian village before the emergence of modern social protection institutions.
