Antonomasia
Definition
A figure of speech based on a synecdoche or metonymy relationship, consisting of replacing a proper name with a common noun or a periphrasis expressing a dominant quality of that person (e.g., 'the Poet' for Eminescu), or, conversely, using a famous proper name to designate a human type possessing the same characteristics (e.g., 'a Harpagon' for a miser). This structural tool rearranges semantic networks to increase language expressiveness.
