Definition
A small secondary branch or vein-like offshoot protruding from a main magmatic body into the fractures of the surrounding host rocks; a branch vein derived from a batholith or laccolith. This geological structure forms by the injection and solidification of residual magmatic melt into zones of minimum resistance within the Earth's crust.
