Asbestos
Definition
An older spelling form, lexical variant, or neologism used for 'azbest' (asbestos), designating a group of naturally occurring silicate minerals with a fibrous structure, remarkable for their extreme resistance to high temperatures, fire, acids, and mechanical traction. In the past, due to its excellent structural insulating qualities, it was widely used in the construction and protective equipment industries, being subsequently restricted due to the high toxicity of its fibers upon inhalation.
