Definition
A historical and academic proper name chiefly represented by two major figures: the Welsh monk Asser (died 909), famous chronicler and biographer of King Alfred the Great of Wessex, and Tobias Asser (1838–1913), an eminent Dutch jurist and co-recipient of the 1911 Nobel Peace Prize for his foundational contribution to the creation of the Permanent Court of Arbitration in The Hague and the codification of private international law.
