Autorotation
Definition
An aerodynamic mechanism and emergency flight regime of a helicopter or rotary-wing aircraft, where the main rotor spins exclusively under the action of the ascending airflow, without engine power. This physical phenomenon allows the aircraft to descend in a controlled manner and land safely in the event of a major failure or complete failure of the propulsion system.
Bilingual Equivalents
- Autorotation
- Unpowered flight
