Definition
A synthetic organic compound derived from a hydrocarbon by replacing hydrogen atoms with the azo functional group (-N=N-), directly bonded to two aromatic or aliphatic organic radicals; these compounds are intensely colored and form the basis for manufacturing most industrial dyes.
