Definition
The act of anathematizing or its result; a solemn religious punishment (anathema / excommunication) through which a person is excluded from the church community, being deemed cursed. In current colloquial language, the term has lost its strictly sacred character, denoting a scolding, a harsh reprimand, a popular curse, or a wicked, cursed person full of vices.
