Sapwood
Definition
The outer, younger, and less dense layer of wood in tree trunks, located immediately under the bark and cambium, characterized by a lighter color and a lower mechanical resistance; sapwood. In the woodworking industry, this structural segment is often eliminated because it contains more moisture and is susceptible to fungi and insect attacks.
