Compendium of Classical Mythological Figures and Ancient Historiography
- Acteu — A current Romanian graphic and phonetic variant for 'Actaeus'; a character in Greek mythology recognized as the legendary first king of Attica (the region surrounding Athens) prior to Cecrops. He is considered a primordial autochthonous ruler, born directly from the earth, who gave the initial name to the region ('Actaea') and consolidated the first territorial settlements in the Hellenic space before written history was recorded in ancient documents.
- Adapa — A mythological hero and legendary wise man from ancient Mesopotamian civilization (Sumerian and Babylonian), considered one of the seven primordial sages (Apkallu) and the creator of the foundations of human civilization in the city of Eridu. According to the clay tablet myth, he refused the food and water of immortality offered by the god Anu due to a deceptive advice from the god Ea, thus losing the chance at eternal life for all of humanity.
- Ammon — A major deity in Egyptian mythology (Amun / Amon), originally associated with the air and hidden aspects of creation, later syncretized with the sun god as Amun-Ra and adopted by the Greeks as the god Ammon. Often depicted with ram horns, his cult was centered at the main temple in Thebes and the famous oracle in the Siwa Oasis, where Alexander the Great was proclaimed a legitimate son of this deity.
