Lexicon of Archaic Magic, Folk Beliefs, and Religious Linguistics

• Self-imprecation — A curse directed against oneself; a ritualistic act, magical formula, or solemn utterance through which an individual invokes misfortunes, divine punishments, or physical and spiritual sufferings upon themselves as a testament to absolute sincerity or in the event of violating a supreme moral obligation. In cultural anthropology, the act constitutes a core component of archaic oaths and blood pacts, serving to ensure the transcendence and inviolability of a social commitment.
