#aeronaut

• Ablation — A non-medical process of removal, reduction, or melting of material from the surface of a solid body through mechanical, thermal, or climatic actions. In glaciology, it represents the total loss of ice or snow from a glacier through melting, evaporation, or sublimation; in astronomy and aeronautics, it denotes the erosion of the protective layer of a meteorite or spacecraft entering the atmosphere due to intense thermal friction.
• Aerodontalgia — An acute and sudden toothache triggered by sudden variations in ambient barometric pressure; it typically manifests in pilots, divers, or passengers during high-altitude flight or diving. This pathophysiological phenomenon occurs due to the expansion of air volume trapped accidentally underneath faulty fillings, untreated cavities, or root canals.
• Aerodynamicist — The feminine form for the term aerodinamician; a female engineer or researcher specialized in the study of aerodynamic forces, the design of aerodynamic profiles, and the optimization of airflows for various vehicles, aircraft, or industrial structures through computational or experimental methods.
• Aerodrome craft — An archaic, rare, or conceptual technical term used to describe an experimental heavier-than-air aircraft, an early prototype of a self-propelled airplane, or a covered dome-shaped structure designed for sheltering and protecting flight machines inside an airfield.
• Aerodontalgia — A pathophysiological disorder manifested by an acute, violent, and sudden toothache, directly triggered by variations in barometric pressure during high-altitude flight; it occurs due to the expansion of air or gases trapped underneath poorly fitted fillings or within deep untreated cavities.
• Aerobeacon — A high-power beacon installed at an airfield, on a control tower, or along an airway, emitting intermittent or rotating light beams to guide pilots at night or in low visibility conditions. It serves as a crucial visual landmark for runway location and safe airspace navigation.
• Aviation medicine — A specialized, interdisciplinary branch of medicine that studies the physiological, psychological, and pathological effects exerted by high-altitude flight and variations in altitude or barometric pressure on the human body. This discipline establishes medical selection criteria, fitness standards for pilots, and emergency assistance during air transport.
• Aeron — A complex pharmaceutical preparation, in tablet form, historically used for preventing and combating motion sickness (kinetosis), seasickness, car sickness, or air sickness. Its chemical composition was based on a stable combination of scopolamine and hyoscyamine salts, having a direct effect of inhibiting cholinergic receptors and reducing the excitability of the vestibular apparatus.
• Aeronaut — A specialized or authorized person who navigates through the atmosphere using an aerostat, an airship, or a balloon; a pilot or member of the flight crew operating an aircraft lighter than air. In a historical sense, the term designates the pioneers of atmospheric flights who paved the way for airspace exploration.
• Female aeronaut — A woman specialized in aerial navigation, who pilots or belongs to the flight crew of an aerostat, balloon, or airship. The term highlights the female contribution to the development of atmospheric navigation, including both the daring women from the pioneering era of aerostation and modern female specialists in lighter-than-air flight.
• Aeronautical — Belonging to aeronautics or relating to aerial navigation, as well as the study, design, construction, and operation of aircraft. This term describes structural, regulatory, industrial, or scientific elements essential for vehicle flight within Earth's atmosphere, ranging from airplanes and helicopters to complex propulsion and control systems.
• Aeronautics — The science, technology, and collective industries dealing with the design, construction, testing, operation, and navigation of aircraft within Earth's atmosphere. The field encompasses complex disciplines such as aerodynamics, aerospace structures, propulsion, and avionics systems, aiming to optimize the safe movement of vehicles lighter or heavier than air.
• Aircraft — Any technical apparatus capable of sustaining itself in the atmosphere and moving through airspace due to the reactions of the air, other than its reactions against the earth's surface. This vast category structurally includes both aircraft lighter than air, such as balloons and airships, and aircraft heavier than air, such as airplanes, helicopters, and gliders.
• Aircrew member — A person belonging to the flight or cabin crew of an aircraft during flight, performing professional activities in the air; a pilot, co-pilot, navigator, flight engineer, or flight attendant. As an adjective, it describes the personnel, activities, or specific medical aptitudes required for performing duty aboard airplanes.
• Air-breathing jet — Utilizing the reaction of atmospheric air absorbed and expelled at high speed to produce the propulsion force necessary for movement; a system, engine, or aircraft based on burning a fuel in atmospheric oxygen. This type of structural propulsion is specific to modern turbojet airplanes, differing from rockets in that it does not carry its own oxidizer.
• Airshow — A large-scale international exhibition, trade fair, or aviation show organized periodically, where global manufacturers present the newest airplanes, helicopters, drones, propulsion systems, and aerospace technologies to the public and institutional buyers. This structural event includes both indoor exhibition booths and dynamic flight demonstrations or aerial acrobatics.
• Aerostat — A flying apparatus lighter than air, whose sustenance and ascent in the atmosphere rely on Archimedean force (static lift), being filled with a gas less dense than the surrounding air (such as helium, hydrogen) or with hot air. This structural category encompasses free balloons, captive balloons, and mechanically propelled airships.
• Aerostation — The science, technology, or practical activity dealing with the design, construction, piloting, and operation of aircraft lighter than air (aerostats, balloons, airships). It represents the first historical stage of human aerial navigation, theoretically grounded in the laws of static and hydrostatic lift applied to large volumes of light gases or hot air.
• Aerotaxation — A legal or administrative procedure for establishing, calculating, and applying mandatory aeronautical fees imposed on airlines or passengers for the use of controlled airspace and airport infrastructure. This structural system includes strict regulations regarding overflight tariffs, air navigation services, and passenger terminal operations.
• Aerotechnical — Belonging to aviation technology or relating to the construction, operation, and maintenance of aircraft; concerning aerotechnics. The term describes industrial mechanical processes, aerodynamic design standards, or precision devices specially designed for the civil and military aeronautical environment.
