#animism
- Animatism — A primitive religious concept or early belief system according to which the entire surrounding nature, including inanimate objects, meteorological phenomena, and geographical elements, is governed and permeated by an impersonal, supernatural, and invisible vital force. Unlike animism, which attributes an individual spiritual entity or distinct soul to each element, this anthropological doctrine postulates the existence of a single diffuse energy, similar to the concept of 'mana' in Melanesian cultures.
- Animism — A primitive form of religion or archaic belief system that attributes an individual soul, consciousness, and will of its own to all elements of the surrounding nature, including inanimate objects, plants, animals, and meteorological phenomena. In a philosophical sense, the term can also refer to the doctrine that considers the soul as the sole and absolute principle of all organic and intellectual life.
- Animist — A person who practices or adheres to animism; a follower of archaic beliefs that attribute an individual soul and consciousness to elements of nature. As an adjective, the term describes a ritual, community, myth, or philosophical and religious concept characterized by the veneration of spirits hidden in inanimate objects, plants, animals, or meteorological phenomena.
- Female animist — The feminine form for animist; a woman who belongs to an animist community or who shares the belief in the living and spiritual character of the entirety of nature. As an adjective, in the feminine gender, it describes a belief, mythology, magical practice, or community structure centered around the existence of individual souls in surrounding objects and phenomena.
- Animistic — Pertaining to animism, relating to animism, or characteristic of archaic beliefs that attribute an individual soul and consciousness to elements of nature; animistic. Although in current Romanian the established form is 'animist', the variant 'animistic' appears isolated in academic works as a loanword adapted directly from Western terminological models to describe primitive spiritual manifestations.
- Spelling variant of animism — Alternative or erroneous graphic variant for the term 'animism', sometimes encountered in old manuscripts, unadapted literal translations, or influenced by the spelling in other Slavic or Germanic languages (such as Polish or Turkish). In standard modern Romanian, the only correct and lexicographically accepted form is 'animism', any other phonetic iteration being considered a deviation or a residual historical form.
- Animology — An academic branch or theoretical field theorized in the past, dedicated to the systematic study of animistic beliefs, the concept of the soul (anima), and the way archaic human communities personify the forces of nature. In a philosophical context, it represents the speculative study of the nature and manifestations of the vital principle animating organic bodies, often used to describe doctrines preceding scientific psychology.
