#industrial engineering
- Water-tube — Operating through a network of tubes inside of which water or steam circulates, being heated from the outside by combustion gases; a structural term especially applied to high-pressure steam boilers. This advanced technical design optimizes heat transfer, reduces the total volume of stored liquid, and provides superior safety against explosions compared to fire-tube boilers.
- Air duct — A large-sized pipe, structural tube, artificial channel, or complex technical installation specially designed for capturing, transporting, conveying, or distributing air masses or other gases within an industrial, mining, or urban ventilation system. The term can also conceptually describe a secured aerial corridor intended exclusively for the controlled transit of certain pneumatic flows.
- Brass — A golden-yellow structural alloy composed primarily of copper and zinc, in varying proportions, characterized by high ductility, outstanding corrosion resistance, and remarkable acoustic qualities. In industrial and artistic contexts, it is widely used in the manufacturing of brass wind instruments, precision parts, plumbing fixtures, and decorative objects due to its ease of casting, rolling, or mechanical processing.
- Alkalinization — A technical term synonymous with alkalinization, representing the action or process through which a substance or system increases its pH via the accumulation or addition of alkaline compounds. Although less frequent in current language than the form 'alcalinizare', it is found in old industrial treatises or specific technical translations.
- To treat chemically — To subject a material, an alloy, or a metal part to a special thermochemical or protective treatment (often through the surface diffusion of a chemical element or through structural anodization) in order to increase its resistance to corrosion, mechanical wear, and oxidation. It is a rare technical term used in certain industrial niches and materials engineering laboratories.
- Passivated — Having undergone the process of passivation or surface treatment; a material, alloy, or mechanical component structurally protected through a thermochemical or chemical surface treatment. In an industrial sense, it describes the final state of a precision part whose physical properties have been optimized to resist the action of acids, moisture, or mechanical abrasive wear.
- Bulkiness — The property or characteristic of an object, piece of equipment, or structure of being bulky or cumbersome; the state of occupying a considerable and disadvantageous physical volume relative to the available space. It represents a qualitative measure of an obstructive gauge that imposes severe restrictions on handling, storage, or placement within operational flows.
- Anticorodal — A commercial name for a range of aluminum alloys with small additions of magnesium, silicon, and manganese, characterized by high mechanical strength and exceptional resistance to atmospheric and chemical corrosion. In an industrial sense, this malleable and lightweight structural material is heavily utilized in hydraulics, shipbuilding, architectural profiles, and welded elements subjected to environmental stress.
- Firedamp-proof — Designed structurally or chemically treated to prevent the ignition, propagation, or explosion of hazardous underground mixtures of methane gas and air, commonly known as firedamp. In a technical sense, the term describes safety equipment, insulating materials, or sealed electrical devices intended for use in mining environments with a high risk of deflagration.
- Annunciator — An electromechanical or electronic warning device that visually or acoustically indicates the state of a circuit, the occurrence of a fault, or the reception of a signal within a control system; (adjective) that announces, heralds, or signals an imminent event.
- Silver-plated — Having been structurally covered with a thin layer of silver through galvanic, chemical, or mechanical procedures; silver-plated. In a technological sense, a silver-plated object (such as mirrors, electrical connectors, or German silver cutlery) acquires the optical reflectivity properties, high electrical conductivity, and corrosion resistance specific to the precious metal without requiring the use of a solid mass of pure silver.
- Stunning device — An apparatus, mechanical device, or industrial electrical installation used in slaughterhouses to induce a temporary state of unconsciousness in animals before slaughter; (as an adjective) causing stunning, capable of structurally suppressing nerve pain reflexes through the application of a calibrated shock.
- Self-regulated — Having regulated itself or being self-regulating; a system, process, or device equipped with autonomous corrective mechanisms that calibrates its own internal working parameters. In a broad sense, it describes the state of a stable functional circuit that has balanced itself without the addition of an external command or manual corrective force.
- Self-equipping — The act of self-equipping and its result; a technical, logistical, and financial process through which a production unit, workshop, or company independently provides its own pool of machinery, tools, and equipment necessary for the technological workflow, relying exclusively on its own resources.
