#rheumatic fever
- Antistreptolysin — The articulated form or lexical variant currently used for antistreptolysin O (ASLO); a specific antibody produced by the human immune system in response to infection with group A beta-hemolytic streptococci. This serological protein neutralizes streptolysin O (a hemolytic toxin released by the bacterium) and is quantitatively determined in laboratories via the ASLO titer to diagnose post-streptococcal complications such as acute rheumatic fever or glomerulonephritis.
- Aschoff — A medical eponym dedicated to the German pathologist Ludwig Aschoff, used to describe specific anatomical structures or histopathological changes. In pathology, it indicates 'Aschoff bodies' (inflammatory granulomas specific to rheumatic myocarditis) and 'Aschoff cells' (multinucleated giant macrophages), while in anatomy it refers to the 'Aschoff-Tawara node' (the atrioventricular node of the cardiac conduction system).
